Hello. I'm rubbish at working put what ages children's books are aimed at. I read the Menolly of Pern ones as an adult and I reckon my neice would enjoy them being read to her. But she's 6 and a half... She's too young isn't she?
What age do you reckon would enjoy these books? I might buy her a copy and hold onto it for a couple of years..

I also want her to read the Discworld Tiffany Aching ones but again I'm not sure what age is best to read them at...

I read them at about 11-12 and that's about right. I'd say you could go with the first three Tiffany Aching books younger than that (say 8-9) but the later ones get very dark indeed and deal with some really tough themes - think father beating his daughter into a miscarriage for getting pregnant dark. So wait a while with those.

You mean Dragonsinger et al?
Those are children's books? Well, who knew, they were just standard Fantasy when I was reading them all those years ago.
Actually I think they are still standard Fantasy.
Six is too young I'd say.

They aren't children's books at all. The first one contains a horrible child abuse scene where Menolly's father beats the crap out of her and later on, her mother deliberately allows her injury to heal badly so that she can't play instruments any more.

The third one contains a scene where a group of people deliberately withhold pain medication from a dying man to get him to name an heir. Not suitable for a 6 year old.

I’d leave it until she’s a teenager.

Too young at six - 11-13 would be an ideal age.

For six year old, if you want to stick with dragon themes there's the Danny Dragonbreath books by Ursula Vernon (though the Hamster Princess books might be right up her street)
