Have you seen the competition on the homepage? The link shows you 4 sample pages from the new book here pictures and text, and it looks every bit as good as the first one.

I've just pre-ordered it from Amazon

Am I the only sad person who's excited about a new Gruffalo book?

Nope roisin, I've just preordered via your link

Demented · 23/08/2004 21:13

Looks fab, I saw this either on Amazon or Tesco.com the other day (shopping for books again ). I have promised DH I won't spend any money on anything other than essentials for the next two months so will have to be patient but it looks fab!

Dingle · 23/08/2004 21:14

I loved the first book too, had great fun reading it to my little ones. Have seen Gruffalo's Child advertised a while ago, my ds was really excited- he obviously enjoyed the silly voices I put on reading no.1.
I will take a look at the link.

roisin · 23/08/2004 21:17

Dh actually SUGGESTED we order it!

.. And I slipped in another book in the order too
(My English teacher from school has a book being published on the same day.)

What's your English teacher's book about Roisin. I'm always looking for suggestions, you should see my wish list on Amazon!

Demented · 23/08/2004 22:33

That sounds great SueW, was that at the Edinburgh Festival? It was being performed there although unfortunately we didn't manage to go, both DS1 and 2 would have loved it.

We've got friends who play the guitar, sing and act out The Gruffalo, they are very good!

roisin · 23/08/2004 22:36

Demented, it's number 9 on this list

Review on Amazon is here

I've read the first dozen pages, and the writing is exquisite. I'm really looking forward to reading it. But it's certainly not light reading ... and at 750 pp quite a wrist-cracker too!

Have added it to my ever growing wish list, sounds good, you'll need to write a review in the Book Club when you're done.

roisin · 23/08/2004 22:48

Yes, I'll do that. Somehow I think mentioning it under a thread about the Gruffalo might not reach the target audience!

we have the music (a freebie with the book club) and dd loves it! Very catchy tune, can't wait for this one to come out!

If you go to Pan Macmillan you can get a load of free Gruffalo goodies - I think it runs out on 30 September though

tech · 24/08/2004 07:40

hi all, just a quick request. if you are clicking through to see the new book can you do it by clicking the banner ad at the top of the page - so the publisher thinks we are great and gives us loads more ads. ta very much.

Demented · 24/08/2004 09:36

Oh it's still on at the Festival, don't think we will make it though would have to go this Saturday. Thanks SueW, it looks great.

Twinkie · 24/08/2004 10:27

Am terribly excited and have ordered it - DD has all of their books and so will put this away for Xmas for her.

Gingerbear · 24/08/2004 11:03

have also ordered it, and I joined the Gruffalo gang!!

Thanks for the info.

clary · 24/08/2004 15:07

SueW we saw it at Lakeside too, are you from Nottingham? (I have thought this from previous postings I think). In fact we are now complete converts to the venue as its shows are only £4 a ticket which is a bargain compared to the £8+ charged for a lot of kids theatre!
BTW love the Gruffalo website (yes, I clicked through from the mumsnet page). Can't wait for the book!

Bagpuss30 · 24/08/2004 15:11

Just showed ds (3.10) the Gruffalo site. He now keeps asking for the book. I must admit that I am nearly as excited as he is though .

Twinkie · 24/08/2004 15:16

How do I get to the gruffalo website through mumsnet??

Tetley · 24/08/2004 15:36

Twinkie - it's the blue banner at the top of the page - with snow coming down it!!

Twinkie · 24/08/2004 15:40

DO I have to wait for it to come up - I have a golf one at the top of the page at the mo!!

Tetley · 24/08/2004 15:44

On my computer it's there all of the time - I haven't got the golf one - how strange.....
