I got this book on the recommendation of a mumsnet thread a couple of weeks ago, having never heard of it before, and just had to come back to say how much i've enjoyed it. I'm not quite finished yet but it's been a thoroughly enjoyable read. Well written, pacey, interesting characters and really good plot.

It's wonderful, isn't it? I read it a couple of months ago. I also enjoyed John Boyne's A History of Loneliness. And he has a new one, A Ladder to the Sky, which will go on my tbr list.

It struck a great balance of good quality writing that wasn't so self indulgent as to become a bit of a chore (looking at you Donna Tartt) which is exactly what i was looking for. I'd definitely read more by him.

I loved this book. It’s probably been one of my favourites that I’ve read this year.

The best book I’ve read in ages. Loved it. Cried with laughter and also sadness. I’m recommending to anyone who will listen to me!

Jenniferturkington · 19/09/2018 15:45

I read this last month and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s definitely one of the few I’ve read this year that has stuck in my mind long after finishing it.

Welshcake77 · 19/09/2018 20:49

I finished this last week, also on a recommendation from here, and loved it too! It’s so well written and totally agree with Henry above about it not becoming self indulgent and especially the Donna Tartt comment, really don’t get on with her books!

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 19/09/2018 20:51

prampushingdownthehighst · 19/09/2018 20:53

I also read it after seeing a recommendation on here.
I'm ashamed to say that I spent one Sunday doing very little but read it as I just couldn't put it down- fabulous book.

RhubarbTea · 02/01/2019 00:11

I absolutely loved this book, I listened to the audible version which has THE BEST narration and remains one of my favourite audiobooks of all time. Well worth a read/listen. Give it time to get going and you will love it.

flossietoot · 02/01/2019 00:14

I adored this book!! Best I have read in a long time. History of Loneliness also very good.
I have just started ‘milkman’ by Anna Burns, another Irish author, which is good too.

Greenteandchives · 02/01/2019 12:30

I’ve just started this book thanks to MN. Can’t wait to get back to it already.
I’ve just finished Our House by Louise Candlish. I enjoyed that too, and for once I agreed with what was written on the cover (although I didn’t ‘literally shout out in shock’ at the ending I didn’t see it coming.
