I cried and threw the book aside then had to pick it up again to find out what really happened..
it has really affected me.
Anyone else?

Ah, well the film wasn't as harrowing as 10 years a Slave but it wasn't far off, particularly toward the end.

oh God, 12 years a slave - am reading that at the mo too.
Not feeling good about white people right now, of whom I am one...

I haven’t seen the film but have read it. I agree - it’s harrowing.

I felt the ending of the film was less strong. Thought the descriptions in the book were amazing - one of the few books I have re-read. Try Burial Rites if that gripped you - completely different setting but no 'easier' a read
