I read it in. Hospital years ago during an overnight stay, man next to me lent it to me

All I remember
Medieval/fantasy ish

Angel like winged girl things were enslaved had the wings cut off and were killed/enslaved
Possibly nailed to big wagon wheels ( wodden not chocolate)
