I am absolutely too small for school by Lauren Child. Bookpeople do a set of 3 inc this one very cheap.

The Ahlberg's book Starting School is a classic in this house.

Shirley Hughes - Lucy and Tom go to school (or somefink like that)

DS has one that he absolutely loves, it's called Tom & Small, written by Clara Vulliany

There is a good Topsy and Tim and the New School - more about a sort of nursery setting (pictures instead of names on the pegs etc) but still very good

"If You Take a Mouse to School" by Laura Numeroff is a lovely book that describes what happens at school without being overly didactic or sickly sweet. She has a whole series of Mouse books that are really fun.

Another vote for the Charlie and Lola one..it's brilliant!
