What is the book I'm looking for?

I've never read it and don't know the title or anything about it really!

I saw it recommended by several MN'ers and thought I would file it to be read - but I've forgotten what it was.

There is apparently a fall in love with type lead character of the type that inspires a MN nickname and it was mentioned in the same thread as the Cazalets saga so I think it is a family/historical series (?)

I've been struggling for the memory for a little while so I'm hoping I can be put out of my misery.

Don't know if any of these will be what you're looking for but
sagas/series I've read and can recommend:
Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy; Poldark series by Winston Graham; Olivia Manning's Balkan Trilogy/Levant trilogy; Anthony Trollope's Palliser novels; The Raj Quarter by Paul Scott.

Sagas I've noticed on other threads but haven't read:
Susan Howarth Penmarric; Penny Vincenzi can't remember titles; series by R F Delderfield.

Also if you put 'Cazalet Chronicles' into advanced search facility on this site it should bring up all the old related threads, so you might find what you're looking for that way, good luck.

@Dottierichardson

thanks for helping. It was mentioned alongside the Poldark novels and the Forsyte saga both of which I loved so thought I would enjoy this mystery set too.

I'll add the Raj Quartet because I haven't read these yet. I love RF Delderfield too

I have a feeling the character may have been Tristan or Lysander...so frustrating!

the thread was in Chat so I think it has disappeared now...I did have a crack at advanced search. Poo!

Is it outlander? You would definitely fall in love with Jamie Fraser, and I’ve seen lots of outlander themed user names.

MrsJakeLovell · 18/07/2018 19:42

Don't think it would have been Outlander but my 'to read' list is growing!

Pretty sure it will be Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond books.

MrsJakeLovell · 24/07/2018 12:57

I've been away this weekend so didn't manage to come back and say thanks for help.

People seems certain that it is the Lymond books (and perhaps the Lymond made me think of Lysander) so I'll give them a go!

Thanks again

Lysander Hawkley is a character in The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous, by Jilly Cooper. Jilly has written a series of books, and although they are stand alone & not a series like the Cazalet sagas, a lot of the character re-appear in each book. The first one she wrote is called Rides, then Rivals, then Polo, then I think came TMWWBF and a whole lot more after than that which in my humble opinion were not so good. The first three are usually considered the best although some people love the TMWWBF.

Sorry, my abbreviations are wrong for the The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous - should have read TMWMHJ, ignore the TMWWBF. Smile

Also first book is called Riders (not Rides) excuse my fat sticky fingers - it's this heat.
