It is about a Jewish man who wanted to forgive Hitler for the holocaust because the anger was getting to him. He tried his rabbi first but was no help. He eventually was helped by a Zen teacher who asked him to send mettas to first his loved ones, then to his acquaintances, then to his enemies and finally to Hitler. The teacher had to further break it down to May you be free of hatred, may you be free of ignorance and finally may you be free of fear.
