Help me remember the name of a book! Fossil hunting

Hoping the collective power of mumsnet can help. I read a book that featured a teen girl or young woman who was interested in collecting fossils. She definitely found some and was inspired by Mary Anning. Was set post Mary Anning I think but early enough that women and fossils weren’t the done thing.

It’s not the French lieutenants woman and it’s not remarkable creatures.

It’s driving me mad!

Is it Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier?

BestIsWest · 27/06/2018 20:55

A Stitch In Time - Penelope Lively? More of a children’s book though.

Knittedfairies · 27/06/2018 20:56

Discovering Dorothea by Karolyn Schindler?

imsorryiasked · 27/06/2018 20:57

There are several women mentioned here which may jog your memory?

Chopsypie · 27/06/2018 21:09

No, none of those.

@Imsorry it was a fiction book, I’m almost certain

It definitely sounds like Tracy Chevalier Remarkable Creatures

Curiosity by Joan Thomas?

Ouroboros · 28/06/2018 23:34

My first thoughts were A Stitch in Time & Remarkable Creatures! It's not the Lie Tree is it?

worstmotherintheworld · 29/06/2018 13:16

I have a copy of Tracy Chevalier's Remarkable Creatures and one of the characters is Mary Anning (based on a real person) - I don't know if she crops up in any other books though.

One of these? Guardian list

SatsukiKusakabe · 30/06/2018 20:40

My first thought was the Essex Serpent

Fanny and the Monsters by Penelope Lively? Children’s book, obviously.

WisestIsShe · 01/07/2018 17:35

Agree, sounds like the Essex Serpent
