Jackie collins

I recently finished 'valley of the dolls' by jacqueline Susann & thoroughly enjoyed it, which was surprising as it's not necessarily the type of book I thought I'd like, however I have purposely been selecting books a little out of my comfort zone. Anyways, when I took it back the library the librarian suggested I try some Jackie Collins. A quick Google brought up so many of her books that I just wouldn't know where to start!

This leads me to my question. Anyone here read any Jackie collins? Any suggestions where I should start? The best ones & those best avoided.

I haven't read any of hers but was wondering if you had read Stepford Wives or The Womens Room.

I have read the Lucky Santangelo series and a few others.They're quite dated now. They're ok but do contain a lot of sex, not all of it consensual. At least one character will have suffered a lot at the hands of men/Hollywood, there will be a psycho, a star crossed couple etc.
Victoria Fox is a modern version.
The interesting part is Jackie Collins claims many of her characters are based on real people. Interesting in light of everything coming out now about Hollywood.

OP my mum had a stash of these and I remember reading Hollywood Wives which is one of her most famous, I think some of the later ones are not as much on form. You could try Peyton Place by Grace Metalious which Virago republished when they brought out a new edition of Valley of the Dolls, also The Group by Mary McCarthy, about what happens to a group of college girls when they graduate - a bit more literary than the others but in a similar vein, and also from the early sixties.

OP just wanted to second Superloud Stepford Wives is a really good, sinister read - the film is great too. And the Women's Room is also well worth reading, although quite downbeat. Along with Suzann's book they're all ones that struck a chord with women when they first came out, in a way they're classics just not the kind Penguin tends to bring out.

Chances was the first one I read, it's the first in the Santangelo series. Very much of the time they were written, but everyone gets what they deserve in the end, more or less, and they're easy to read. I think I must have read everything she wrote now. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing

Another vote for the santangelo series I love them. If you want something smaller of her try the bitch or the stud.

I've read all of them, they are a great read, totally hilarious romp.
Very, very much of their time, but great entertainment, honestly can't recommend enough.
