Next Georgette Heyer?

I’m just approaching the end of The Grand Sophy (as rec by MN). I’ve really enjoyed it but I don’t feel like I’ve connected with Sophy and the male lead (no spoilers) as much as I have characters in her other novels. Maybe because I don’t really feel like I have much insight into Sophy’s thought process, we’re just kind of left to judge her by her actions. I’ve still enjoyed it though I think I prefer Regency Buck (so far).

I’ve read and enjoyed Venetia, Cotillion and Devil’s Cub, and I’d say Regency Buck is my favourite.

Where to go from here? Please help me MN! And maybe even read with me and we can start a thread?

I would recommend These Old Shades or Frederica as your next Georgette Heyer. But I love them all!

I have just read False Colours which I really loved, it was funnier than anticipated. My other favourites are Arabella, Frederica, A Convenient Marriage and Cousin Kate. I just love Georgette Heyer.

She’s a bit fantastic. I can see how people get hooked. I do not know what actual period books I can turn to which are funny with a feminist undercurrent like this. I’ve done all of Austen so Heyer is the natural next step I guess.

Arabella and Frederick are two of my favourites too. The Masqueraders, The Toll Gate and The Talisman Ring are up there too! And when you've done all the period romances, don't forget her detective stories...

Devil’s Cub was really fun. When will they finally televise sons of this? Obviously starring Richard Armitage as every love interest.

Frederica, Arabella, These Old Shades, as mentioned are all great. I would add Sylvester, Faro's Daughter and Bath Tangle.

I love the title of Bath Tangle so that is pretty high on my list. Not sure what it’s about except that presumably it’s set in Bath, which is a world I would love to visit if I had a time machine (and a very fancy dress).

Frederica must be pretty brilliant to get such a response but I did love the blurb for These Old Shades.

There seem to be quite a few Heyers in the kindle daily/monthly deals at the moment if you want bargains. Most of mine are from charity shops (why would anyone throw them away?!). yes I do have them ALL
