Suggest books for me - psychological thriller

Hi - I have t read books for ages as I have been stressed and find the attention span is t great but I'm determined to start again as I love reading

So can you suggest a really good psychological thriller , something a bit odd, strange with twists and turns - don't mind sex, not keen on graphic violence / gore but horror thriller is good

I've read some of the usual like Stephen King and James Herbert so looking for something else

Have you read any Chuck Palahaniuk? Would really recommend his earlier work (eg Survivor, Invisible Monsters, Fight Club, Lullaby and I particularly love Diary but Survivor is probably the best).

They’re very dark and twisty - his later books got a bit too gross and outrageous for me, but I think Survivor is perfect.

I’d also reccommend The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon because it’s a bloody masterpiece - it’s not a twisty thriller but it’s incredibly gripping and such a beautiful book, I recommend it to everyone.

OP try The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes, fits with what you described.

I enjoy Lisa Unger, especially her first two: Beautiful Lies and Sliver of Truth. Twisty and creepy and quite unsettling.

Douglas Kennedy does this well, not horror, but psychological - The Woman in the Fifth; The Big Picture; Leaving the World; The Dead Heart.

I've just read You Were Gone by Tim Weaver, which was very twisty. It's part of the David Raker series of books, but you don't need to have read them all to enjoy it. Sharon Bolton writes a good thriller too, I loved Sacrifice and Blood Harvest. Sarah Pinborough's new one, Cross Her Heart, is fab too.

Sabine Durrant's "Lie with Me" was one of the best psychological thrillers I've read in the last year or two, she has a new one coming out any time. Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendell left a big void for me I loved her writing, occasionally she did produce a dud but I thought she wrote twisty, psychological thrillers like no one else.

Sarah Pinborough's last book, can't remember the name divided opinions, personally I thought it was awful.

I've just finished it and was underwhelmed by the ending, and found the rest of it hard work. There was too much left unexplained, which I've said before about her books.

I have just finished Our House by Louise Candlish, and I have mixed feelings about it. I read it on my Kindle so I felt my progress with it was slow, it felt like forever to get halfway through. I did guess some of the big twists and there was one point where I thought "even after all that, would you do this?" and thought probably not, but I did actually like how the ending dealt with that.

I've just finished The Surrogate by Louise Jensen and would recommend you avoid it, it was terrible. It started at just okay and I was hoping it would get better. Instead it got worse, the ending was terrible, and it was a complete waste of my time.
