I'm trying to track down a book from my childhood because I think DS would love it but I can't remember the title or the author 🙈

It's a horsey book, where a girl comes to work as a groom for a family of a mum and two or three grown up sisters who are posh but fallen on hard times (leaky roof etc)

One of the sisters sells her 'secretaire' to pay for new rugs for the horses and things.

I know it's a long shot but anyone have any ideas??!

Do you think it is by one of the Pullein-Thomson family?

OP what about Follyfoot or Flambards?

It’ll almost certainly be one of the PT sisters, or Patricia Leitch.

You know, those authors were my go-to's and I don't think it is by one of those (it was a bit 'trashier' or more modern than their books?) I remember a scene where they were selling an expensive vase and the valuer tipped it up to look at the bottom and the old 'dahlia water' poured out onto the carpet and stank?! Oh god I'm never going to find this daft book 😆

What year do you think it was that you read it surf? That might help a little bit. This is going to annoy me if I can't track it down (school librarian here!)

I'm so sorry Paris! This has been driving me mad for ages 🙈😂 I would have read it say between 1990 and 1998 most likely - and I think it was a fairly new book.... I also remember one of the sisters going to a show in an antique side saddle hunting habit with a yellow moleskin waistcoat and winning the prize 😊 I know that doesn't help identify the book but random scenes keep coming back to me 😬

I know this! It's Eventer's Dream by Caroline Akrill. It's the first one in a trilogy: the next are 'A Hoof in the Door' and 'Ticket to Ride'. Love these books.

Well done sausagetown :)

You're welcome! Usually it's me trying desperately to find a book - I had a big clear out a few years ago and have regretted getting rid of several of the books since. Really happy that I could identify one for someone else for once :-)
