Hello!

I have a very long walk coming up soon and I'd like to download an audio book to entertain me. The sort of genres I enjoy include post-apocalypse style dystopia, travel, comedy, thriller novels, the easier-to-follow Terry Pratchets although I've not read one in years. Not a fan of "chick lit" particularly but not overly fussy.

I've just joined the month free trial so I get one book for free - anyone want to recommend something? I don't see anything that really catches my eye. Bonus if it's read by someone interesting! Or is it usually just narrated by the author?

I highly recommend At Home by Bill Bryson.

Sorry posted too soon. The Rivers of London series.

I've spent all my credits this year on The Chronicles of St Mary's books by Jodi Taylor. Time travel, history, humour, great stories, what's not to love?

Ooh great suggestions, thanks everyone! I absolutely LOVED The Girl With All The Gifts user1471437486 and I didn't know MR Carey had written another so that's going to the top of the list.

Will put the rest on my wish list!

The Rivers of London books are excellent in audio form. They're good books anyway but the actor who reads them really adds something extra.

Wolf Hall. Bloody brilliant.

Im listening to Eleanor Elephant Is Completely Fine and the narrator is brilliant.
I can't say how good it'll be, it's certainly intriguing. It's not chick-lit!

I loved the narration of Eleanor

My favourite is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie read by Adjoa Andoh

I about about to listen to Purple Hibiscus

I've just finished Wool by Hugh Howey. And the other 2 in the series, Shift and Dust I think. It's a post-apocalyptic trilogy and it completely engrossed me. The narration was good too. I'd thoroughly recommend all 3 books.

I enjoyed The Tea girl of Hummingbird Lane. That's the story of a young woman who grew up in the hill tribes of China. It grabbed me in a completely different way. She's the same age as me, but her life is/was so incredibly different to mine, all because of the place we were born. It was really interesting.
