What I love...
Marnie Baranuik books.
Kate Daniels Magic bites series - in fact anything by Ilona Andrews.
Rivers of London
Dead witch walking.
Grave Secrets series
Grave Witch series
Darynda Jones' First Grave on the right series.
Pratchett.

And I'm thirsty for more as I've read the ones I have again and again.

For preference....
First person narrative.
Past tense only - cannot abide books written as if they are happening in the moment.
Female main character, although have enjoyed the Rivers books.

Not such a fan of the ones set in the medieval worlds, although I did really love Anne McCaffrey dragon books as a child.

Please regale me with lovely suggestions to stock up my kindle for the summer.....

Robin Hobb
Ursula Le Guin
The Dark is Rising (kids book but wonderful)

Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus series is a good first person urban fantasy set in the UK (male character though), starts with Fated and there's a new one Marked out this summer.

Diana Wynne Jones. Some of it's kids/YA but all worth reading.

Also, not a female protagonist but the Name of the Wind trilogy-to-be is excellent.

The Magician's Guild Trilogy by Trudy Canavan - infact any of her books are really good.

Brandon Sanderson - Way of Kings / Mistborn Trilogy

Patricia Wrede's The Edge series. YA but lots of fun. Most things by Patricia Wrede really.

The first five Laurell K Hamilton books. Don't bother after that unless you like soft porn and lots of hair. The first five are very entertaining.

Annie Bellet's The Twenty-Sided Sorceress series.

Intisar Khanani's Sunbolt Chronicles.

PC Hodgell's (sp?) Kencyrath series. Quite old now but really good. She deserves to be much better known.

Garth Nix's Old Kingdom books.

Emma Bull's War for the Oaks. Indeed all Emma Bull. If you like a complicated read, her "Freedom and Necessity" is extraordinary.

If you like vampires Barbara Hambley's series which which begins with Those Whi Hunt the Night. I like all of her books, especially the Windrose Chronicles, but they are set in a medieval-type world, with forays into contemporary LA, so might not work for you.

But her Bride of the Rat God is, hands-down, one of the most entertaining fantasy novels ever.

The Alistair Stone books by RL King are fun. Male protagonist though.

And Martha Wells - the only title I can remember off the top of my head is Death of a Necromancer.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I've already read
The Dark is rising series (and loved it)
Brandon's Mistborn series
and Robin Hobb, which I didn't love but I did read.

I shall have some fun checking them out. :)
