I'm at the beginning of this but struggling. Anyone else read it and should I keep on with it?

Just finished it.........I found it hard work. If you don't like the first 50 pages I would stop.......I had to read it for my book group and it did feel like homework!
It did give me a good insight and more understanding of another culture which is a good thing.......but it was a struggle!

I finished it a couple of weeks ago and also found it a struggle. The insights into the culture were good, but parts of it, like the chapter that's just letters from the sister, I just skimmed. I did like the last page though!

I would say I enjoyed the book but it has got a few pretty serious flat points that are tough to get through.

I just finished it and I loved it! Didn't find it a struggle at all, am curious as to why some of you do/did?

juniper68 · 09/08/2004 23:34

thanks for that advice. I'm on the sister's letters chapter. I agree regarding culture though, there are few asians in our town so I like that aspect.

I didn't like it either - there were loads of stages when I really didn't care what happened next as the characters never quite caught my imagination. Only character I did warm to was the sister in bangladesh.

juniper68 · 10/08/2004 17:45

Ok that's me decided, it goes to mum and my sis and I'll find something else to read (or maybe I could do housework?)

I finished it about a week ago.
I found the letters from her sister a bit trying but loved the rest.
It was one of those books that i 'missed' the next night when i'd finished it. (IYKWIM)

I'm reading 'Still thinking of you' at the minute and it's great.

I think it's because her baby has died and that's put me off.

too long. ending sell out.

mammya · 10/08/2004 20:59

Oh really Twiglett? I loved the ending and thought the characterisation was excellent and like Angeliz, I was sorry to finish it. Am reading A Certain Chemistry by Mil Milington now, very funny.
