Funny book recommendations needed - not romance!

I am after a funny book as a gift for a friend who is currently learning English. She's been through a bad break up so preferably nothing with too much romance in it.
Any ideas?

How about Nora Ephron's Heartburn? It's about a woman getting a divorce and it's sardonic and laugh-out-loud funny.

Otherwise my favourite funny writers are Fran Lebowitz, James Thurber and Dorothy Parker - none of whom are romantics.

David Sedaris's books are very funny. He writes stories about his family and himself

Thank you for the suggestions! Heartburn actually sounds perfect except for the fact that the protagonist is pregnant which is definitely a no-no at the the moment. It looks fab though so I might get it for myself! Will check out the authors suggested though, thank you.

I second David Sedaris. And I've just recommended Tales of the City on another thread. It's pant-wettingly funny.
