bloody awful, couldn't finish it, really disappointing as I loved all her others especially affinity

don't tell anyone I posted here as I am supposed to have flounced, OK?

bundle · 12/05/2007 14:32

gosh I quite liked it too. I kept turning the pages to find out more about Duncan - thought he could have been much more of the focus tbh. haven't read any of her other stuff. felt teh descriptions of war-torn London were terrific, and the after-effects of the backstreet abortion were truly stomach-churning.

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 12/05/2007 15:41

I've just started it and it hasn't yet impressed me even though I usually love anything to do with the 40s

DimpledThighs · 13/05/2007 10:57

has anyone heard the 'knight to king' theory?

DimpledThighs · 13/05/2007 10:57

fuck - wrong thrad sorry haha!

ArcticRoll · 13/05/2007 13:42

I was disappointed with it as I loved Fingersmith.
She is a great writer but I found the four storylines a bit frustrating.
I would have preferred if she'd concentrated on one or two characters in more detail.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 15/06/2007 12:16

i just finished readin this.
i thought it was good (though not as good as her others)
but i just feel unfulfilled! i want to know how they all get on.
maybe i should read it again. but backwards this time.

NKF · 15/06/2007 12:29

I thought it was all a bit predictable which made the tricksy backward storytelling technique a bit pointless. Cliched characters too.
