Hi all, I actually posted this in chat yesterday, because I’ve only just found out this section existed, despite responding to threads here. Doh!
I’m just going to copy/paste, hopefully someone will have read the book.

Spoiler alert (Hopefully!)

Can someone please explain the ending to me?

I thought that she was dead, that she imagined what happened after whilst drowning while diving for coral.

But then I read something about ‘magical powers’ and ‘deux ex machina’ and I’m clearly missing something.

If you read it can you please explain as I’m obviously very thick, and I’m very confused! thank you!!

There are several ways to read the ending, and I have it on excellent authority that the way you interpreted it is one of them.

Ooh, really! Thanks so much, That’s really cool!
Would you please be able to briefly explain the ‘magical powers’ interpretation for me please, as I didn’t get anything like that at all!

Eliana's magical powers stem from her ability to dream. In our world she would be considered someone who "lucid dreams", i.e. she is able to tell when she is dreaming and thus capable of modifying the dream at will. This is a known and somewhat studied ability that some people actually have. In her own world, perhaps due to the Spinner's influence, Eliana's "magical dreaming powers" allow her to modify the real world, just as she would a dream.

Right, I see. Thanks!
I was so confused reading that review, thinking, I swear she died at the end!
