My wife like to read (coff-coff) popular fiction, probably a reaction to all those years studying English Lit.

She was laughing over this phrase, referring to a middle-aged woman: "When she smiled, her teeth were the milky white pearls of a healthy virgin."

The author is probably a multi-millionaire; who are we to laugh at him.

Milky White pearls of what? not envy. Sounds dodgy as hell. I love reading those books as I laugh so much I cry!

They used to say that you lost a tooth for every child. Because of the way the blighters suck you dry during gestation and beyond so your teeth can suffer as a result of pregnancy (and the reason you get free dental treatment in pregnancy). Could that be why? Weird though.
