What is this book I read at school?

I'm watching Joanna Lumley's Trans-Siberian journey and it has reminded me of a book I read at school. It was a story about a young boy's journey and I can't for the life of me remember anything else about it! Can't remember the author, the title or what it was about but I do remember that I loved it.

Can anyone help?

The Endless Steppe?

I think it was based on a true story

SarahSiddons · 21/03/2018 22:18

Erik and the Detectives?

Imfinehowareyou · 21/03/2018 22:20

The Endless Steppe was about a girl. Bloody loved that book.

Yes, I’ve just remembered that. It was a great book.

I am David has a long journey but somewhere in Eastern Europe, not Siberia, I think

Long Way Home by Margot Benary-Isbert?

MsMalcontent · 21/03/2018 22:31

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't think it is any of them. I found it a few years ago and recognised the title straight away but none of these ring any bells. Have googled them though and might find some extra reading material from this thread!

IIRC I recognised the name of the author, maybe a philosopher?

The alchemist?

Letter for the King? We got a beautiful version of that a few years ago, my kids have read it loads of times. Not Siberia though...

Road of Bones by Anne Fine?

AuntGertrude · 25/03/2018 14:00

I was also going to say "Road of Bones" by Anne Fine. It was published in 2006.

maybe a philosopher

Candide by Voltaire? The Stranger by Albert Camus?

purplegreen99 · 26/03/2018 10:25

The Stranger is also known as The Outsider if that helps.
