Not sure how long they will be at these prices but thought they might be interesting.

I've ordered the hardback. I really like Mary Beard when I see her on TV, so I'm looking forward to reading her book.

It's the same price in Sainsbury's. I bought it at the weekend :)

That's good then, as some people don't like to use Amazon.

Thanks!

That’s interesting. Is it focussed on ancient history or something else?

Hygge · 28/02/2018 10:34

So far it's been about how women are silenced, and that this is a thing that has been done to us throughout history.

She went back to what she says is the first recorded issue of a woman being silenced. Penelope, silenced by her young son Telemacus, who said that she should go back to her weaving as talking was for men.

If it’s by Mary Beard it is going to be interesting and entertaining. I will be looking in Sainsbury’s as soon as this snow and ice allows for a chance. Thank you. Hope you enjoy the rest of the book.

Just adding here that it is in this month's kindle sale at £2.99 Smile

Hygge · 01/03/2018 12:32

Thanks Crampton, an even better price. I've read a little bit more and it's been very interesting and well written.

She really is a wonderful author, thought provoking but accessible, and making some very good points about women's voices.

I wished it had been longer - it really felt like it was quite thin.

Hygge · 02/03/2018 21:42

That might be to it's advantage though, some people might read it who would have been put off by a longer book on the subject, and then look into things further.

I'm certainly planning to read more by her and more on the subject.

But then, I wish this one were a bit longer too, I'm enjoying it so much.

Have ordered, thank you. Saw this whilst Christmas shopping and couldn't quite justify the spend on myself.
