Folk/Fairy Tales - can you help me identify this story?

Bit of a long shot this. As a child I used to love reading collections of folk and fairy tales from around the world. For the most part I can recall the stories and their titles but there is one I just cannot put my finger on.

It's a tale about a girl who is given an enchanted necklace made from three entwined strands of human hair - one black, one red, one gold. Each hair transforms into a young woman who comes to the aid of the girl at times of peril.

That is all I can remember about it and I would LOVE to know what it was called. I don't suppose any of you lovely Mumsnet crew recognise it and could help me out?

I don’t know, but I will bump for you and cheekily ask, does anyone know the story where a girl and boy are being chased by a witch or similar, and she throws a comb over her shoulder that turns into mountains? I think she throws 3 things in total, which is why your necklace reminded me!

The comb story is from Baba Yaga.

Baba Yaga was an old favourite. Also Vasilisa Most Lovely - both Russian.

Thanks for the bump.
