Farseer books, something really bugging me. *Spoilers*

Hi All, you may remember me from the "just got into fantasy" thread.

Well I got totally hooked on FitzChivalry Farseers story. I have finished the first two trilogies and was going to read the third but the synopsis put me right off.

I hate The Fool. I don't get the relationship they are supposed to have, it all feels super forced and retconned. I find the character in all his guises incredibly fucking annoying and vacuous and cannot fathom why Fitz cares about him so much.

It's putting me off reading the next lot because they seem to put more emphasis still on the relationship and compare it to NIGHTEYES relationship with Fitz which is beyond the fucking pale.

I always found Fitz and Mollys relationship to be weak too but I wasn't as fussed about that as she wasn't around much after she scarpered and the "shallowness" of what they had is at least explored.

I have more thoughts on this but thought I would see if anybody is up for discussing it before I go on.

BTW I am not bothered if people put spoilers for the last trilogy in their posts, they don't bother me (weird I know).

Read them! I love Fitz but was never overly enamoured with the Fool but you need to read these to continue the story.

The first book is fairly slow to get started, the second and third are magnificent.

It’s worth reading the Farships and Dragon wilds books before starting into them though as there’s a lot of crossover.

I love Robin Hobb but as I started reading them a loooong time ago they have been rather more spaced out for me. I remember taking one of the Tawny Man trilogy to work to read when I was doing a really boring repetitive task (which did not require much attention!) when I was pregnant with my first DC - he's at secondary school now!

Have you read the Live Ships trilogy - I actually started with those and they are a little different (not in the 1st person, set in a different part of the same world) so could be a refreshing change? I think you want to read that trilogy and the dragon wild books (which I loved!) before you hit the last Fitz trilogy as they are all linked. I took the last book "Assassins Fate" on holiday last year (thankfully on my kindle it's a brick!) and just about managed not to cry when I was reading it on the plane on the way home.

It's complicated is the best way I can describe their relationship. I know you said you don't mind but don't think I can say more, as we'd be entering spoiler territory for the last books and the very conclusion (that's as much a hint as you'll get there!), though I'd like another discussion when/if you read the rest.

I think Fool can be annoying, even Fitz dislikes him in some of his guises.
Liveship Traders I didn't warm to as much as the others, but as others have mentioned they are worth reading for crossover purposes. Avoid the Soldier Son trilogy at all costs, however Grin
