I'm off to bed with Snow. Will I be pleased?

24 hours late. What did you think?

DH and I both loved it. Much better than My Name is Red.

I think I found the beginning a little slow and the story is rather dark and depressing. However, I have travelled alot in eastern Turkey and I found it really conjured up the atmosphere of the place. I also found the story compelling which I think is rare in such a well written book. Finally I appreciated the way Pamuk got me really thinking about the the influence of Islam on the daily life of women and on politics in that part of the world.

I loved this book (but then I loved MNIR as well). the last part of the love story in Snow is such a mediterranean drama.

Only managed about two chapters - you know how it is - but pretty thrilled so far. Odd the way the narrator just appeared though. I love having a book that's waiting by my bed.

Here is a post I wrote on "Snow", explaining some of the references/themes that will probably not be so obvious for those reading it in English. It doesn't have any spoilers.

Enjoy.
