I am not enjoying the kite runner. Is it worth going on with?

I found the first chapter or two hard going, but I did enjoy it.

I found it really wonderful and shocking.

Oh I loved it - but I didn't find it hard to get into - maybe you're just not in the right frame of mind at the moment.

Captain Correli's Mandolin was like that for me - I started it about 3 times and really struggled to get into it (I only tried again because it was my FILs copy and he kept asking me if I'd finished it yet). Once I was hooked...that was it; I read to the end in one night.

I didn't like it either, and thought the ending was unbelievably contrived - far too many coincidences. It was pretty schmaltzy overall and I felt it has been as highly regarded as it has because of its inherently emotive subject. So if you're not enjoying it, I'd stop.

It is schmaltzy but in the sort of way that I love.

I really loved it. A lot.

well - I think it's a good book until half way through and then loses its way totally. So if you're not enjoying it now...! Agree with singersgirl and franca.

It's good until they move to the States and then becomes a quite different sort of book. Personally, I think it's worth reading though it's not as good as its fans claim.
