Have you found anything else worth considering?

OP posts:

I've been waiting for this. I love their sales. At the moment I'm considering(too lazy to link)...

The three that you listed above.
Night Waking by Sarah Mosse
The Age of Wonder by Richard Holmes
Everyday Sexism by Laura Bates
Incognito: The Secret Lives of The Brain by David Eagleman.
Miller's Valley by Anna Quindlen
I Contain Multitudes by Ed Yong
Black Diamonds: The Rise and Fall of an English Dynasty by Catherine Bailey
The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson
Swimming Lessons by Claire Fuller
Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
The Time Travellers Guide to Medieval England by Ian Mortimer
The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben
The Ashes of London by Andrew Taylor
Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman
The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce
The Secret Life of Cows by Rosamund Young
The Mitford Murders by Jessica Fellowes
The History of The World by Andrew Marr
and Into The Woods: How Stories Work and Why We Tell them by John York.
I'm sitting looking at the one on Margaret Rutherford too.

I'm getting a kindle for Christmas do following with interest!

Teufelsrad · 22/12/2017 12:05

I said that I love their sales but I do wish that there weren't quite so many 'filler' books, the Kindle Unlimited sort. Yes I've read some great books that were free, but so many are just bad.

What also annoys me is when they advertise books on sale for £5 or more. Yes it might be cheaper but I wouldn't call it a great deal. Actually even £3 is a bit much for my liking during a sale, unless it's a book I'm really anxious to have.

Also Naomi Klein - the shock doctrine

That's brilliant, OP! I've been meaning to read Testosterone Rex for ages but hadn't got round to it. Have just bought it now.

magimedi · 25/12/2017 15:34

Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie - £1.99

Lots & lots of other good deal as well.

Belo · 27/12/2017 13:20

I've just bought Sing Unburied Sing for £1.99 (and am feeling very pleased as I almost bought it for a lot more 10 days ago!)

This won the National Book Award in the US recently. I've also seen it in several best books of 2017 lists.

Belo · 27/12/2017 13:21

And I've just bought Home Fire. Thanks for the tip magimedi

EauDeChlorine · 28/12/2017 21:08

It feels like ages since I managed to bag a Kindle Bargain. I enjoyed “The kind worth killing” by Peter Swanson but I picked that up in a previous sale.

MadamePince · 29/12/2017 06:55

Sarum by Edward Rutherford is 99p today.

Brilliant read in my opinion (his later ones like Dublin and paris - not so much)

sarum

Cherrypi · 29/12/2017 07:56

This sale has been very disappointing so far.

MadamePince · 29/12/2017 14:08

This sale has been very disappointing so far

I agree, I usually manage to stock up for the year, but this year I've only found a couple

elkiedee · 29/12/2017 17:06

Teufelsrad - the list you're considering - I highly recommend Night Waking, and while you're at it The Tidal Zone is also on sale for 99p.
Ashes of London by Andrew Taylor is also good, and so is The Axeman's Jazz if you like historical fiction.

magimedi, Home Fires is excellent too.

I have bought quite a lot from the list, though I also owned quite a lot already - lots of deals are repeated, eg I've already bought alll the books mentioned above in previous offers, after reading 3 of them from the library, and it's a different format from other years. Still, there are some goodies for those of us who like series crime fiction.

Looking forward to January's monthly deals now.

Teufelsrad · 29/12/2017 21:25

Thank you, Elkiedee. I'll definitely get Night Waking. I read The Tidal Zone earlier this year and really enjoyed it, but some of the reviews of NW made me a little hesitant, but I'll go for it. I'll check out The Axeman's Jazz too, and probably get Ashes of London.

Teufelsrad · 29/12/2017 21:29

I'm hoping that January's monthly deals will be better than December. There were only 2 or 3 books that I was interested, and so far I've bought just one.

There's a lot in the 12 Days sale that I want but even so out of 500 or so that's not that much, and again there are so many filler books. There were also a lot of books that I was hoping would be on sale but which aren't.

Teufelsrad · 29/12/2017 21:30

I'm very tempted by Sarum though I don't know if I'll ever get around to reading such a big book, other than Les Miserables.

fixthefreezerdavid · 30/12/2017 07:29

Vinegar girl is 99p today. I fancy it as it's a re writing of The Taming of the Shrew which I love! Love Anne Tyler too.

BookWitch · 30/12/2017 12:54

I enjoyed Sarum, but didn't enjoy his other epics like London and Dublin.

I just downloaded Vinegar Girl Grin
