have you read this?

my friend got it for me for my birthday - just started it and it is most odd.

I think he only got it for me because he wants to go and camp it up at the musical.

opinions please....

Yup - Its quite hard going, but I enjoyed it... more about dictatorships etc, the effects on society, life as a freak etc than Oz as we know it.

I'd love to see the show

I've read most of Maguire's books. They are all different takes on fairy tales and such. I read Son of a Witch by Gregory McGuire back in Feb. It is a follow on from his novel Wicked. It is good. It wasn't as heavy going. I like most of his novels, but have picked up (and put down again) Mirror, Mirror (re-interpretation of Snow White) several times as is set in 1502. But will be trying again soon.

Oooh son of a witch sounds good.

I like the loook of the ugly sister one

USAUKMum · 20/04/2007 11:54

Son of a Witch was v. good. It was a bit of adventure as well. He's got a new one out too. It is between Son and Ugly as my favorites.

That wasn't very coherent was it -- trying to cook lunch too. I meant to say, I just saw one that I hadn't seen before (Leaping Beauty) which is a set of tales. But haven't read it. The Ugly Sisters and Son of a Witch were my fav of his thus far.

I really like fairy tales set in modern settings. Charles deLint is one on my fav authors for this.
