Anyone read this? I'm 200 pages in. I like the main character and I'm quite enjoying it but so far not finding it as unputadownable as other books of hers.

I read it. Wasn’t keen. Didn’t like any of the characters and thought it was boring. And I usually really like MK.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 13/11/2017 21:26

I read it. Preferred it to The Woman Who Stole My Life (which I thought was a bit crap) but not a patch on Lucy Sullivan, The Walsh sisters series and the one set in a magazine (Lisa, Clodagh and Ashleigh) that I can’t remember what it was called.

SergeantFredColon · 13/11/2017 21:28

Sushi for Beginners? Yes I wasn’t keen on the Woman who Stole...either or The Brightest Star in the Sky. Last one I really liked was This Charming Man.

theothersideoftheworld · 13/11/2017 21:32

I read it. It was ok. But I liked Watermelon the best. I love MK but didn’t think this was one of her best.

PugwallsSummer · 13/11/2017 21:46

I was a bit disappointed. It was a pleasant read and I did enjoy it, but just found it predictable.

PugwallsSummer · 13/11/2017 21:48

I loved The Brightest Star in the Sky. Wasn’t keen on The Woman Who Ste My Life

MimsyBorogroves · 13/11/2017 22:14

I normally find MK very easy reading, very enjoyable. This one was dull and predictable.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 13/11/2017 22:16

Sushi for Beginners?

That’s the one!

Braceface · 14/11/2017 07:44

It's just not as good is it? I don't know why. Can't warm to Amy.

I’ve found her last few books to be a bit meh. I thought The Woman who Stole My Lofe to essentially be The Other Side Of The Story in a different decade. And not as good.
I think I’ll leave The Break for a while.

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/11/2017 07:48

I didn’t really like the Walsh Sister book about Helen and her dectevtuve agency very much which was a total shame because I loved all the others.

Postagestamppat · 14/11/2017 07:57

My favorite is Rachel's holiday. I loved MK's voice when she was younger, but it felt like a huge jump in age for the main character of The Woman Who Stole My Life. It wasn't as sharp. From what I have this new book sounds the same. I'll still get it. A slightly off top form MK's book is still a good book for me.

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/11/2017 08:12

Oh I LOVE Rachel’s Holiday.

I still swoon slightly for Luke the Real Man

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 14/11/2017 08:22

I actually liked The Break, and I haven't been crazy about the last few. I didn't enjoy the slightly strange angry/sad sex, but I sped through the book, whereas I didn't even bother finishing the Woman who Stole my Life.

Braceface · 20/11/2017 18:10

I did enjoy it in the end.

I liked it, and I thought The Woman who Stole my Life was rubbish, and I was so disappointed by the Helen book! I read The Break very quickly not expecting much from it, which might be the key - it's not as good as her early books but I thought it was a step up from the last few.

4amwriter · 29/11/2017 18:10

I'm not sure what the etiquette is on talking about endings....but the ending of this book annoyed me so much! Let's just say it's not the option I would have taken....

ON the otherhand I loved all the references to Amy's clothes and style, it really inspired me actually. But I did feel like Marion had devoured mumsnet topics and put it all in a novel.

DeathByMascara · 29/11/2017 18:21

I loved the Woman Who Stole My Life, but was disappointed in this one. Jut felt very formulaic. And I haven’t like either Anna or Helen Walsh’s stories - there was a line in the other side of the story about just writing a sex scene if you get stuck. And that’s how every sex scene reads to me now, particularly Anna’s random one in the middle of her story.

Knackerelli · 03/12/2017 20:42

I ordered it from the library, read it but didn’t enjoy it. I also much preferred her earlier work ( the woman who stole my life was crap ) Although, I really enjoyed the one about Helen’s detective agency when I thought I wouldn’t.

MegEmski · 29/12/2017 13:39

ooh. I did enjoy the break, but I didnt like the woman who stole my life, or the brightest star in the sky particularly.

One of my favourites is this charming man, but not sure anything beats Rachel's Holiday!

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2017 13:48

It’s a fantastic audiobook. I wouldn’t want to sit down and read it, but I loved listening to it while I was doing other things.

bookworm14 · 29/12/2017 22:59

I loved it - thought it was a real return to form after the past couple of books. I liked that Amy’s family was another large, semi-dysfunctional but loving family like the Walshes.

bootygirl · 30/12/2017 12:39

bertandrussell I bought it in audible sale glad the audio book was good as I want to listen to it in hospital!

Bought the paperback for my mate who loves Marian Keyes bit worried now! It was €16!!
