I'm about 50% through this (according to Kindle!) and really struggling with it! Does it pick up pace a little?

Any recommendations for when (if!) I finish it?

I love all sorts of fiction: my last 2 books before this one were Into the Water and The Power

I really enjoyed Swing Time; I found it compelling and she has such a great sense of place (and pace). I think it is worth persevering with; the main character matures and becomes more objective as the book progresses.

Having just also read The Power too, how about The Mandibles by Lionel Shriver? She wrote We Need to Talk about Kevin. Like The Power, it is set in a near dystopian future (also thinking about rereading Tha Handmaiden's Tale after the TV series). I loved this so much I read it again immediately after; it was only £1.99 on Kindle.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've only ever read Kevin by Shriver so I'll give The Mandibles a whirl.

I just can't warm to the main character; maybe it'll happen in the next bit of the book. I usually love Zadie Smith but I'm finding this one a challenge.
