what is the name of this enid blyton story??

I read this over and over as a kid but can't remember what it's called! It has a group of siblings and their friend who are all mistreated at home who run away to a little island in a lake, they live on the island, hunt, fish, grow food, etc. I remember them hiding when a search party came onto the island, and going to land to sell baskets they had made. It was fantastic!

Did anyone else read it and remember what it was called?

It could be Five Run Away Together but it could also be any number of hers, which constantly feature islands and maltreatment and escape.

There's also The Island of Adventure (ds is working his way through the " ... Of Adventure"s at the moment) but I don't think it's that one. Pretty sure that one involves a hermit with a hermitage secretly entered behind a waterfall - sound familiar at all?

Has that got Kiki the parrot and Jack and the mum's got a boyfriend who's a bit rough but has a heart of gold etc etc - all very progressive for it's day

I read and loved this book as a girl too. It's definitely not the Famous Five or the 'Of Adventure' series. Having read the Amazon reviews, I think Doddle's right.

The Secret series

It's the Secret series - it was a fantastic book. The parents of two of the kids are missing presumed dead in a plane crash, iirc - but they turn up alive at the end. Lovely

Oh I remember this one - I loved it too (but always wondered what they did about going to the toilet!)

Don't think I read the others in the series - but there were no decent bookshops near where we lived so it was often difficult to get books....

The Secret Island - ahhhh loved these books
