Kazuo Ishiguro wins the Nobel Prize for Literature

Is any one else pleased about this? I love many of his books and was really pleased to hear the news.

I'm going to do some re-reading to celebrate, starting with The Remains of the Day.

Anyone else?

I agree. Remains of the Day was a remarkable book - so haunting and beautiful understated writing. I was delighted and surprised that there isn't more of a fuss being made about a British writer winning it.

I was thrilled to hear this - particularly as I've just started re-reading The Remains of the Day this week and remembered how much I loved be it. I'd go for Never Let Me Go again but I'm not sure if my nerves can take it

I'm really pleased too. There are a few of his books that I haven't read so this has motivated me to get on with it! Never Let Me Go is a book I've recommended a lot as it seems to be a bit less well known (amongst my friends anyway).

Never Let Me Go was one of the most beautiful haunting memorable books I've ever read.

I'm delighted. I really enjoyed nocturne's (I think not sure of the spelling) My eldest is reading when we where orphans at the moment, she normally only reads Jodi Picoult so it's interesting to see this

Cake never let me go would be a good place to start. Although the nocturne's one I mentioned was an easy pick up put downer, it was short stories iirc, some better than others but memorable at the same time.

Never Let Me Go is on the English Literature GCSE specification, but sadly I don't think it's a popular choice with schools.

I've never read Remains of the day but Never Let Me Go is one of my top ten books. I love dystopian fiction and it's incredibly haunting.

That's such great news. He's such a wonderful writer. I thought Remains of the Day would be an utter slog to read but I was so surprised how beautifully written it was. I couldn't put it down. I loved Never Let Me Go too. I will put The Buried Giant on my "to read" list.

I love his writing. My favourite is An Artist of the Floating World. Remains would be a good one to start with. I started Never Let Me Go but I found it too frightening to finish.

My favourite is The Remains of the Day, followed by An Artist of the Floating World. Never Let Me Go is also good, and I found it more interesting than disturbing.

I wasn't so keen on The Buried Giant, more because the genre Ishiguro was exploring doesn't really interest me, than because I didn't think the writing was good.

A long time ago I met Kazuo Ishiguro and he was utterly charming and modest, very interested in his readers and grateful for their support.

Hmm, I've read Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go, but actually I don't particularly rate him at all. I find his writing a bit...cold and I can't really engage with his characters.

Remains of the Day is a sublime book and won the Man Booker Prize.I also think the film is great and very true to the book His other books are also beautifully written and haunting. So pleased he's been awarded the Nobel prize.

He’s only written 7 novels. It shows the level of care and attention he puts into each book.

I loved Never Let Me Go, but found Remains Of The Day boring - I'm obviously missing whatever it is everyone else sees in it. I also tried The Unconsoled which was one of the most bizarre things I've ever tried to read and I couldn't get more than a quarter of the way through it. Havent bothered with any more after those experiences.

I bought Never Let Me Go at some point and it has been on my shelf. Conveniently I have just finished the book I was ready so am starting today. I have read one chapter over breakfast and I am drawn in already, but feel a little bit sick at what's happened in just that chapter.

Really pleased he won the Nobel Prize. Loved Remains and most of his others. However, didn’t care for Never Let Me Go but then I don’t like dystopian novels as a rule. I haven’t read The Buried Giant as I had a look at the described general plot and thought it weirdly unappealing. Perhaps others can tell me it is really enjoyable.

The Remains of the Day - such a subtle and heartfelt book. A beautiful book, in fact.
