Wow. Read it in one go last night - partly because I'm full of cold and couldn't sleep and partly because I got sucked in to the book.

It's been a while since I've read something that gripped me and I found it very scary in parts.

Loved the premis. Loved the male counterpart (remeniscent of a Peterson type character) and did enjoy the book as a whole.

Only one bit I didn't really love and won't mention it because spoilers!

Thank you for the recommendation; will add this to my list.

Ooh thanks for the recommendation - I've loved everything Jodi Taylor has written but was a bit worried about it being scary because I'm a bit of a wuss! Is it as well written as her others Drmadelinemaxwell ? (From your username I'm guessing you're N st Mary's fan too!)

LBOCS2 · 24/09/2017 22:48

It is scary, it's well written - I found it very creepy in parts. I'm very much looking forward to the next instalment.

Finished it and enjoyed it. Thank you for the recommendation

I'm definitely a St Mary's fan. I didn't find it quite as funny as St Mary's, but there was some humour in it. And in those books she's very good at writing some pretty scary stuff too - Jack the Ripper in the pod... - and it was like that. Creepy/scary. But nothing gory or horrible really. Def edge of seat stuff though.

(Apologies for typos in op btw!)

I liked the ambiguity of the ending.

Also the contrast between perception of danger and actual danger in different locations. The place where you feel scared is sometimes not that dangerous. In the place where you think you're safe, you can still be in danger.

The sequel to this is coming out in October and you can pre-order it now.

I've been wary of trying her other books. Mostly because I love St Mary's so damned much that I'm worried anything else will be a let down but also I scare easily 😂 Should I stop being pathetic and go for it?

TheThirdOfHerName · 21/08/2018 21:01

I enjoyed White Silence as much as TCOSM, but I have a weakness for novels set in the vicinity of cathedrals.

It is scary in parts, but not horror.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/08/2018 21:22

I did really enjoy it, but did find it quite scary (suspenseful) at one point.
