Of Flambards fame?

fishie · 28/03/2007 19:02

ooh yes i did love those. but they did flambards on radio a little while ago and it wasn't very good - expect they cut it too much.

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2007 20:06

FLAMBARDS????

Well, I mean, yes, she did write them, but no, I was thinking of the superb series inc Fly By Night, The Team, The Last Ditch, the Pennington trilogy, the Jonathan Meredith stories, and Marion's Angels.

They are so wonderful, I fancied wittering on about them for a while with some fellow afficionadoes.

If you don't know them and you like really affecting and intelligent teen fiction, or your children do, get hold of them somehow.

flambards yes-love love love.
started reading the books as series was on when I was at boarding school and didnt always win the fight to watch that channel (despite scratching a few eyes out!) so had to read the books to keep up
Never knew there were others-will investigate ASAP!

pointydog · 28/03/2007 20:13

i'm pretty sure I rezad the pennington ones and loved them

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2007 20:17

Pennington was the football playing policeman thumping Beethoven playing boy

Others feature horses. A lot.

About 3 zillion times better than Flambards.

OP posts:
Lio · 28/03/2007 20:23

Aah, Patrick Pennington (swoon), Ruth, the one who was kidnapped (Jonathan?) and the horsey gang, fabbo ace books.

pointydog · 28/03/2007 20:35

Oh YESSSSSS

Lio · 28/03/2007 20:36

Ruth's horse was called Toadflax something. And Ruth got her period on the day of some big event and someone else rode her horse and she was jealous because the rode him better than she ever could. But it was all wonderful. And there was Peter someone. McNee?

Lio · 28/03/2007 20:38

And Pennington played Rondo Capriccioso in assembly. And all through my first pregnancy we called the bump Ludo, but dh still doesn't know it was because of Ruth and Pat's baby, Lud (for Ludwig). God, how bad is it to have SUCH a major crush on a fictional talented bad-boy .

elasticbandstand · 28/03/2007 20:39

he wanted to take care of his hands??
was there a canal?

pointydog · 28/03/2007 20:39

oh crikey, ludwig - yes!

bran · 28/03/2007 20:39

I only ever read the Flambards series, which I loved. I haven't read any others, but it's possible that I'm just too old if they were published after Flambards. I only read the last book of Flambards when I bought the series for DH's niece because it was published after I'd grown up (it wasn't as good as the first 3 I don't think).

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2007 20:40

Toadhill Flax. It was Peter who rode her horse, Toad, because he was Peter's horse first and he always rode him much better anyway

What did they call it? The old Capritch?

He is the BEST romantic hero ever, though, tons better than Darcy or Rochester even

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2007 20:41

Oh read them bram, everyone read them

I just reread the whole darn lot and they were FAB, they just get better and better each time you read them

Clarissa threw the MUG at him when he rebutted her advances

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2007 20:42

bran · 28/03/2007 20:42

I see from Wikipedia that she had published plenty of other books while I was still young enough to be reading them, I don't know why I didn't.

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2007 20:44

Oh READ THEM NOW BRAN

go on

I will sit here and wait for you to come back and talk to me about them

OP posts:
Tatties · 28/03/2007 20:45
