Should I persevere with Moby Dick?

I loved the first few chapters. Brilliant, witty, funny.

Them there was a LOT of whale classification. Bit dry.

And Stout's dream went on a bit - still witty and beautifully written though.

I find I'm not loving it as much as I did. Push on? Or give up?

Yes. I plodded through it first time because I tried to read it like a novel, second time I loved it. Best to take it a chapter at a time, and remember nothing is at face value. If he is telling you about tying knots, or harpoon technique or tattoos, he's also giving you a lesson in life. Take your time and have something else on the go for when you need a break from blubber.

Give up - unless you want to be somebody who has actually read it. I didn't give up, but still wish I had. I liked the whale classification, harpoon techniques etc - it was the story itself I disliked.
