Am looking to load the kindle up before my holiday so after any cheapish recommendations - happy to try anything, not so keen on historical fiction though. Thank you!

www.freebookfinder.co.uk

Good website for finding free kindle books.

I love Elly Griffith's books about an archaeologist who helps police out with murder investigations. First one in the series is free.

Bookbub also has free books

pluck · 12/07/2017 20:46

I second Bookbub, and also instafreebie. Smile

If you are a member of your local library you should be able to download e-books for free on your kindle, you will be able to access thousands of titles and latest releases (usually can have them on your device for 3 weeks and if not needed by someone else you can renew them for longer too)
Our library uses the app 'cloud library'

Have a look at the summer sale.

Thank you I'll look at those sites. Our library only supports Kobo readers or it certainly only used to. I will check again.

I just finished this one, great book www.amazon.co.uk/Gone-Without-Trace-boyfriend-vanished-ebook/dp/B01D8ZE2QG?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Also don't forget that the classics are available free, e.g. the 39 steps, Sherlock holmes, black beauty etc

Some Elizabeth Strout books for 99p on Kindle at present - Amy and Isabelle (small town USA, single mom whose DD has affair with teacher set around 1970). Also The Burgess Boys. The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell is 99p. Reader, I married him (edited by Tracey Chevalier) short stories celebrating the Brontes is £1.99.

Getting the Classics for free is a good idea there are even collections of a novelist canon.

Set in Cornwall, proper summer read but it did make me cry!!

Littlepleasures · 16/07/2017 11:08

If you enjoy crime fiction, google Blake Pierce. Quite a few by this author are free and worth a read.

I use Kobo as our library doesn't support Kindle for copyright reasons.

I usually use the app on my tablet or phone these days as the dear old original ereader I bought is getting very flaky and keeps freezing. The app has a handy function in the Store section which shows free ebooks. They're usually the first in series to tease you into buying more. However I have found a couple of good new authors this way, particularly Emily Larkin. The first in her Baleful Godmother series was still free on Kobo, Kindle and ITunes last time I looked.

Nice to see other Kobo readers, AlpacaLypse! (tho'I do now have a Kindle as well).

There's also gutenbwrg.org for classics, which can be loaded in .epub (non-Kindle), .mobi (Kindle), .pdf and .html (for reading on a computer screen).

Oops. I mean www.gutenberg.org
