Summer Holiday Reading Suggestions Please

Hello,

I'd love 2 or 3 really engaging ideas for my holiday reading please!

I'm just about to finish The Thirst by Jo Nesbo.
The last 2 books I read are: Commonwealth by Ann Patchett
The Heart goes Last by Margaret Atwood

I like lighter authors like Liane Moriarty and a bit of heavy duty fiction too. Open to all suggestions Smile

Coming out later this week The Rome Affair by Karen Swan - lots of twists and secrets (lovely Rome immersion)

Ditto The Thousand Lights Hotel - about loss and finding your father (Elba - very sunny!)

Exquisite by Sarah Stovell captured my attention

Leopard at the Door by Jennifer McVeigh (one of my top reads 2017 - a terrible book cover which will do it little justice)

Hope you find books that fit the bill!

If you liked The Heart Goes Last then you should probably like the MaddAddam trilogy by Attwood (especially the second book The Year of the Flood) - not quite such wicked humour though.

The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber is a great Victorian style thumper read - I found it immersive reading

Just recommended this on another thread, swear I'm not on commission- but I loved this: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01CC8LU92/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469206842&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=one+last+summer+at+hideaway+bay&tag=mumsnetforum-21

I'd say it's a beach read really, but it's set in Cornwall and it's quite emotional!!

I read The Power on holiday this week and loved it! Very Attwood-y.

(Naomi Alderman is the author)

Can second The Crimson Petal and the White and the Power. Both books I couldn't put down.

Thank you! Great recommendations here that I haven't heard of Smile

I've read almost all of Atwood's books, might revisit The Handmaid's Tale in a while!
