Can anyone help? I had this book in 80s/90s but many, many house moves & a fire mean it is long gone.
A woman moves into Jackdaw Cottage following a traumatic event, i.e. divorce/bereavement. In the middle of the night, the former, long-dead, occupant & his family reappear. She does her best to assimilate them into modern life. She takes them to M&S, he falls to his knees, saying, 'for it is holy, like a church'. There's some sort of celebration, he gets drunk & starts to take an unhealthy interest in his 12 year old daughter. Woman remonstrates with him. Things turn nasty & he attempts to burn her as a witch........
That's all I can remember. Can anyone help?

That sounds great!

A google search suggests it's The Quick and the Dead - is that tight?

WhatsGoingOnEh I'm in awe of your Googling abilities. It is indeed the book in question. I have wasted a whole morning searching for this & it took you 2 minutes at most.
Wow!
Thank you very much. I'm going to order it now. Are you going to read it?

I just googled "jackdaw cottage novel ghost spirit". It was the very first result. Are you using Bing?! :D

I'd love to read it, I'll probably try to pick up a copy.

It's under £3 on eBay inc p&p.
I am using Google. I just didn't put that combination of words in. Cos I'm a bit rubbish.:D
I put book jackdaw cottage & got loads of holiday cottages & details of books about a supernatural hero called Jackdaw something or other.

Awww! I must admit, I google EVERYTHING so I've got it down to a fine art. I'm probably older than you too; when Google first started, it published a long set of search tips which I read avidly.

Thanks for the EBay tip, I'll pick up a copy. Really does sound interesting. Thanks!
