Hi Cheeryface - I hate to leave a thread unanswered but your request has stumped me! I don't tend to read romance, esp modern stuff.

I did read a book called The Conjuror's Bird by Martin Davies recently - it does have a sort of romance plot and is a new novel. It's about a stuffed bird missing for generations and a race to find it. All quite light but entertaining.

I also read The History of Love by Nicole Krauss. It's about love and loss across 60 years but is also funny and very touching. There's a book-within-a-book aspect too. Well written with great characters.

Hope that helps, though not sure it does!

this is absolutely brilliant

mummycan · 16/03/2007 12:12

Sorry not that modern but brilliant all the same - and I hate historical fiction and romances but this book blew me away so much that I read the next three as well. If I were recommendindg I would say only do 1st three - I didn't enjoy the later ones as much.

Tribpot - I agree Bronze Horseman is great as is Tully by same author.

tribpot · 19/03/2007 07:32

Strange, I haven't read Tully - assume you've read the sequel to The Bronze Horseman?

StrangeTown · 19/03/2007 10:28

Yes, didn't think it was AS good, but still liked it - apparently there is a third one?

tribpot · 19/03/2007 12:08

Ooh you're right!

StrangeTown · 27/03/2007 21:09

Mummycan - just wanted to add that I got that historical one and read it this weekend. I really enjoyed it and have now had to order the second one!

Cheeryface if you are checking this - it has v good sex!

Tribpot - I can't get Summer Garden anywhere yet - let me know if you manage to and what you think.
