Has anyone read this? I've just finished it and loved it. Amazon reviews are quite polarised so I'd be interested to hear others' opinions. I've given it 4/5 stars as its quite confusing and not totally sure everything tied up for me but really enjoyed it still. Probably 4.5 stars!

I hated it. I gave it 1 sta

Her style is clunky and so laboured. She clearly reads a lot herself and I got traces of much better writers (Kate Atkinson, Jon McGregor ,William Trevor) whose tropes have been pinched and beaten to a pulp. There are endless metaphors and similes which don't make sense; constant repetition for dramatic effect, but which is simply tedious; endless dropping in of oh so such significant symbols.

She clearly has not the slightest idea of how local government, law offices, care homes or record keeping work. The sections at the local authority , the London solicitors and the London care home are risible.

I struggled to halfway. I had hopes it might be so bad it's good, but unfortunately it's just very bad. And that ridiculous "it's the Edinburgh" way- what was that all about? She clearly thought it was brilliantly perceptive rather than trite and irritating.

Interesting, Lass! Your review is similar to some I saw on Amazon. Has no one else read it?

The Kindle version is on sale this month for £1.19.

Yes, I read it after I heard her talk at a book festival. I did enjoy it, but was left with more questions than answers at the end. I liked her style of writing, I thought the premise was good, but that it was a bit contrived. I will buy any subsequent books by the author, as I think she has got promise.

Probably because the review on Amazon you saw is mine ! I cut and pasted it and changed a couple of things.
