The site's here - for swapping books - for every book you offer you get a tenth of a point, and for every book you send to someone (you pay the postage) you get a point, and for each point you earn you can get a book for free from someone else on there. Great idea (though it won't actually reduce the total number of books in my house, which is what's really needed).

Bump - I've just joined today, and I've got one book on its way to me, and am sending out another tomorrow.

I do readitswapit which is a straight swap, book for book, though you keep getting offered the same books!

Not much room for random acts of kindness there, that's why I like Bookcrossing - people are so generous.

I think the problem is that readitswapit relies on you having a book that someone else wants and them having one that you want, whereas with this you can choose books you actually want, just for the price of the postage.

I've just had someone mooch off me for the first time - makes me absurdly pleased that I have something that someone else wants.

They're in the US so ouch a bit in postage terms. I get extra points though!

I've set loose some Bookcrossing books but never get any feedback. I left one under a chair in my local cafe about 2 years ago and it's still sitting on their bookshelf.

It's a bit of a buzz, isn't it shonaspurtle. My first one was from Jersey, and quite a big book, but I sent it anyway.
