I saw Arrival last week.
And the ending was so emotional I cried, in the cinema. Had to run to the loo cos I was still a bit shaky as the audience left.
Although I'd read Ted Chiang's 'Story Of Your Life' the short-story Arrival is based on, the movie reminded me of Fade-Out, simply because both are set in Montana.
So I dug out my old paperback copy of Fade-Out and giving it a read. It came out in 1975 but my copy is the 'updated' version from the late 1980s.
It really is a terrific book, and really should have been made into a movie. The best and most realistic 'first contact' novel I've ever read.
Looks like Arrival got there in the end!
