For a present idea for my Mum, she will only ever read non-fiction (says life is too short for made up stories...... Angry). I don't think she had read any about the history if hospitals. Anyone got a riveting idea? The life of one particular hospital would be good.

You could find a biography of Mary Seacole or Florence Nightingale. Your mum will need guts to read either.

Not exactly what you're after but the Call the Midwife books are brilliant?

I've got a great book called 'the white plague' can't remember who it is by but it is avout TB and how it was treated historically and the social cultural aspects of sanatoriums and things. Very interesting
