Queen Victoria was a fascinating person and the TV programme and the book bring out more of her character that was little known.

jazzitup · 03/01/2017 11:04

I received this as a Christmas present and I've just managed to finish it. I don't think it's one I would have chosen myself but I found it a really interesting read. I didn't watch the TV series but I think I'm going to have to see if it's on iplayer or dvd.

RustyBear · 03/01/2017 14:32

@SorchaMumsnet - I was just coming on to give my feedback, only to find it's too late - but it's still January 3rd! Think you should have made it clearer that the cut off time was before the end of the day! Sad

Stewaris- it was on itv, and has now gone from the itv hub catch-up, but it is available on DVD - my DD gave it to me for Christmas, along with the book.

SorchaMumsnet · 03/01/2017 15:21

Hi RustyBear - apologies for not clarifying. In the future we'll try to make that more clear. Hope it was a nice Christmas present regardless!

Firstly many, many thanks for The Victoria Letters! A truly beautiful edition and a pleasure to own. The book itself is extremely insightful and a wonderful accompaniment to the the television production whilst providing far more detail as to events and circumstances. A lovely personal insight. The illustrations are beautiful. A book to pick up and dip in at leisure.

GeorgeW78 · 03/01/2017 23:24

I loved the series and this is a super companion book with lots of extras.

Mum2mischiefs · 09/01/2017 22:01

I've really enjoyed reading 'The Victoria Letters' - I'm not a massive fan of history books but this book is broken down into small chunks and the mixture of content from diary entries to letters to and from Victoria make it a very interesting read. I've learnt more in the past few weeks about the Victorian era than I ever did at school!

GERTA · 17/01/2017 07:36

A very interesting and enjoyable book. I have not watched the series so I cannot compare but the book is a great insight of that era. My hubby enjoyed it even more. Would def recommend it to my friends!

Radley1 · 23/01/2017 13:53

Thank you for my copy . Lovely read great illustrations and pictures
an ideal companion to the TV series . I'm not usually a lover of history
books but really brought the past to life many thanks.

Sorry to have taken so long - i lent this to my parents and they both read it as they had watched the series. Really unusual for my dad to read a book. We all love the detail in the accompanying book and learnt so much. Thank you for picking me.
