Golden Hill by Francis Spufford

[Dunlurking]

Has anyone posted about this gorgeous book yet? Just loved it. I read a library copy and can't wait for the paperback to reread it. I might just have to order it from the library again. Something about it reminds me of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, although thankfully it is a lot shorter.

On second thoughts maybe I need to buy the hardback so I have a first edition

I was looking at this the other day. It's v pretty. Think I'll give it a go - have read some of his non-fiction.

Do Remus. His writing is so accessible and beautiful. He spent many years writing this apparently. I've only read his book "The child that books built" before. What else should I read?

I read his one about the Antarctic too.

I'll look out for that one then. Thanks Remus

The paperback of Golden Hill is out - I didn't realise - it was prominently displayed in Waterstones today - as their fiction book of the month.

I'll give it a go. :)

Back room Boys is brilliant too.

Thanks KIngscoteStaff I'll hunt that one down as well.

So pleased to see this has won the Costa first novel award

I really want to read this but waiting for price to come down on Kindle. I might reserve at library, but popular books tend to have a long wait.

I'm still waiting for it to come down in price on Kindle.

Ooh - just looked and it's down to £3.79 today. I'm going in!

Me too!

'Twas 6 quid after I'd commented earlier.

Essex Serpent went up after we heartily recommended it to everyone

Oops!

Essex Serpent £3 now, so still a bargain!

Yes I'd definitely have paid £3 for it

I managed to catch Essex Serpent at 99p and started it yesterday Thank you posters who put it on here.

Finished Golden Hill today. Enjoyed it. Don't know if I'd reread it but it was entertaining and I'd read another novel by him.

Just finished the book this morning and absolutely loved it.

Feeling a bit bereft now it's over, such beautiful writing and I loved New York as the setting.

I was frustrated by it. Liked lots of it, but too long and too much padding.
