I know there's been a few threads, I've rummaged through and have yet to find a suitable book.

We want a Christmas themed story.
One of our memebers hate and chick lit
We have just read Miss Smila's feeling for snow and most people either didn't enjoy it or at least found it hard going, so we want something really readable.
Something along the level of a Christmassy Big Little Lies would be good. We read that. the anti-chick lit person hated it, but most people either enjoyed it or found it easy to read.
Someone suggested a Christmas Carol, but I guess everyone knows the story so well there'd be nothing really to discuss.
Nothing too schmalzy, and definitely nothing hard or miserable.
We are really late choosing the book. I have spent forever trailing the internet. I'd be so grateful if anyone can suggest something!

A bit random but Anthony Trollope Christmas at Thompson Hall?

Bacause it's a collection of short stories different people may prefer different stories and none of them are too long.

that is definitely a step in the right direction!

Anything else or too mushy but an easy, interesting not too girly or puke light read? We have a couple of people that don't have English as a first language so simpler language is better there must be something in between scandanavian murders and kissing under the mistletoe. ..Confused

How about a nice English comfort murder?

Georgette Heyer's Envious Casca (aka A Christmas Party) and/or Ngaio Marsh's Tied Up In Tinsel

Hogfather by Terry Pratchett?

We did Hercule Poirot's Christmas one year, and Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse.
