According to Yes - Dawn French (there may be spoilers!)

I've just finished this book, and I was really enjoying it at first. I liked the lead characters determination to say 'live according to yes', but I found it very hard to believe that a 36 year old would act in the way she did at times and I didn't like the ending - I don't like books that leave unanswered questions!

Has anyone else read it? What did you think?

It sat really oddly with me. All three of the relationships were icky in different ways and the 'heroine' came off as completely morally corrupt. I usually read books twice but I've shelved this one.

Yeah, I really struggled to understand why she would sleep with the father/grandfather but I tried to get past it (old people like sex too!!) but it just got worse! I also wondered if she was actually being taken advantage of - possibly depressed woman in a new country/city/job, but that felt even worse.

I thought it was a dreadful book. Started off well, I could just about cope with her having sex with the father and grandfather, but the son as well? And then to end up as best of friends with the mother and grandmother. Ridiculous.

I read this over the summer. Well,I got to the point where she had shagged them all and got pregnant and I gave up. Hideous book. Ffs she shagged the teenager!

I haven't read this, but read her first novel and to be honest, if she wasn't Dawn French I doubt it would have been published, so I can't say I'm surprised that this one isn't great either

I think you're right. I've read her second, Oh Dear Sylvia, and I thought that was quite good, few twists I didn't see coming. I've only read the first chapter of her first (it's at the back of According to Yes) and I will not be buying it.

I originally read Dear Fatty and I really enjoyed that (although not a patch on Jennifer Saunders autobiography). I wonder if the success of that book helped her publishing deal.
