This week we're spoiling you and giving away a massive 300 copies of Missing, Presumed! Head to the giveaway page to apply - plus read the top tips on writing crime fiction from author Susie Steiner.

Missing, Presumed tells the story of a missing girl, a desperate family, and a detective at breaking point.

We ask all winners to share their thoughts about the book on this discussion thread. However, you don't have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion - anyone who has read Missing, Presumed can post their feedback here (and you can buy the book now).

Everyone who posts on this thread before 21 October will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher.

This giveaway is sponsored by HarperCollins

21 people posted on this thread and said they'd entered.
3 said they had trouble. What happened to them? Did MNHQ assist.

So we have 24 known applicants.

300 books ?

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 17/09/2016 09:41

Maybe each person got 12.5 books?

coolpotato · 17/09/2016 11:35

I agree, I thought I'd def get a book because so few people had posted. But I assumed maybe a lot of people applied but didn't post to say they did.

It's a bit like those competitions in FB, the ones where you just have to like and share a page, but everyone comments 'Like and shared' just in case the act of liking and sharing goes uncounted. I know I do that!

But still a bit Sad that I'm clearly not getting a book. Thought I was in with a good chance!

MN has a huge number of members, even when there are product tests with hundreds chosen there is no guarantee you will be chosen. I don't post on giveaway and product test threads unless I am lucky enough to be chosen and then I write the review as requested. It is totally the luck of the draw in giveaways and presumably down to what you put on your application for product tests and if you fit the specifications they are looking for. I for one am delighted when I get chosen and have been lucky enough to get chosen on several occasions for different things but I don't start moaning if I am not . Why not wait and see how many people post the requested review over the next couple of weeks.

KateSMumsnet · 17/09/2016 16:02

Hi chaps,

We'll get the books team to look into this on Monday and address some of your questions.

toastymarshmallow · 17/09/2016 18:55

I agree with onadifferentplanet.

I never post on the thread to say I have entered or done a survey etc. I only do the review or whatever is required if I am picked. MN has thousands of users, even hundreds that read but don't post on the forum, or only come on to apply to these things. It wouldn't be hard to find 300 that applied and didn't post.

I only saw this because I have been lucky enough to have been selected this time. I have done a few book reviews now and I always enjoy them, so thanks MNHQ.

The angst on this thread is ridiculous tbh. I didn't get selected for the £600 washing machine last week, and I managed to deal with it, but posters are here calling MN out over a book? Come on!

popsocks · 18/09/2016 16:48

Just read my emails and a book is winging its way to me. Looking forward to reading it.
I also enter lots of giveaways and competitions but dont post to say so, unless feedback is required afterwards.

voyager50 · 19/09/2016 09:59

Hooray - I won! - looking forward to reading it. Thank you

UrsulaMumsnet · 19/09/2016 10:26

Hello,

I'm sorry that a few of you were disappointed not to win a book this time. A whopping 646 of you entered to win a copy of this book, and winners were picked completely at random. As some have said, people who apply for book giveaways don't always post on the thread to say they've entered like the trend seems to be on product test discussion threads.

The lucky winners will receive their books shortly, and they've then got until 21st October to write a post telling us what they thought of the book, so we should start to see reviews come in over the next few weeks.

We usually run two giveaways a week so do come back each week and see what's going on. This week, we're giving away 50 copies of Strangers by Paul Finch.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. After a week from complete hell I came home today with my sick dd and stumbled across a lovely present from mumsnet! I was so desperate I actually cried because I felt remembered. Its the first present I have had in a very long time and was extremely needed. I cant wait for a bit of escapism as the evenings get dark and cold.

Thank you Mumsnet Book Giveaway. You came at the most perfect time xxxx

Thank you. My copy also arrived today.
Now to decide whether to read this first or my book club book which I collected from the library this morning.
I somehow think this one will win as I'm not sure the book club one is really my type of book.
