This month we'd like to introduce you to Amanda Brooke - Richard and Judy bestseller and author of novels that pack an emotional punch. We've got 50 copies of The Goodbye Gift up for grabs so head to the giveaway page to apply for yours and find out more about the author.

Lucy has been desperate for a new heart for as long as she can remember - but getting the call to say a donor has been found will be a bittersweet relief: because for her to live, someone else must die.

We ask all winners to share their thoughts about the book on this discussion thread. However, you don't have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion - anyone who has read The Goodbye Gift can post their feedback here (and you can buy the book now).

Everyone who posts on this thread before 18 November will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher.

This giveaway is sponsored by HarperCollins

I cried ALOT reading this! It was heart-warming, and touched on so many issues that we never address.

myboycraig · 17/11/2016 21:47

This is the first book by Amanda Brooks I have read. I think it's a great subject to start with, and a very important one that is not discussed often enough, especially by people who don't want to donate. A close family member has needed a donation for years and cannot get one so the story was close to home. I think the topic was discussed really well and I liked the way it has different approaches to the subject by the different characters. So I really enjoyed the story. There was a lot of descriptive narrative that didn't really need to be in there but it didn't really take away the enjoyment of it. I would give it a 4/5. Thanks for sending me a copy.

I haven't read this book yet but funnily enough it is on my reading wishlist. After reading the reviews here I now can't wait to read it.

tishist · 18/11/2016 23:42

No not read it - I'd not heard of it before now

GeorgeW78 · 18/11/2016 23:48

Interesting topics and the subjects are sensitively portrayed but there was something missing for me.

Thank you Mumsnet for my copy. I haven't finished the book yet ... sadly a close friend killed himself days after I started the book and knowing the subject matter it has taken me a while to pick it up again (sorry). What I have read so far I have enjoyed but not yet feeling gripped by the book. I'm hoping to find some depth to the characters soon as I've not really warmed to any of them yet (but I'm only about a quarter of the way through).

Thank you for my copy, I enjoyed reading this book although, like some other readers have mentioned, there are some glaring spelling mistakes. What ever happened to proof reading? I thought some of the dialogue was perhaps a little cheesy, but it was a good read for commuting and the ending was unexpected. I would recommend as a light and easy read and raised the important issue of organ donation, which can only be a good thing.

4isplenty · 11/12/2016 11:41

Shockingly late to this party. I can only apologise for my late review. When I read this book I was impressed, it spoke about everyday life and touched on a number of subjects that are important. I have never read a book that had even a hint of the topic of organ donation so more awareness is no bad thing.
The story was fine for me and flowed with no problem. With no spoilers The ending ( with no spoilers ) was not what I expected and I was kept guessing throughout, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This was a good book, I will pass this on to my friends to do the rounds and I would not hesitate to recommend, and buy, any works from Amanda Brooke in future
