This month we'd like to introduce you to Amanda Brooke - Richard and Judy bestseller and author of novels that pack an emotional punch. We've got 50 copies of The Goodbye Gift up for grabs so head to the giveaway page to apply for yours and find out more about the author.

Lucy has been desperate for a new heart for as long as she can remember - but getting the call to say a donor has been found will be a bittersweet relief: because for her to live, someone else must die.

We ask all winners to share their thoughts about the book on this discussion thread. However, you don't have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion - anyone who has read The Goodbye Gift can post their feedback here (and you can buy the book now).

Everyone who posts on this thread before 18 November will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher.

This giveaway is sponsored by HarperCollins

Really enjoyed the book. Definitely different to my usual crime read.

Julieguy · 11/11/2016 23:45

Unfortunately I haven't read this book yet, but it sounds a really good read.

stefalfie11 · 12/11/2016 00:12

A very touching story about an extremely difficult topic. I thought the story was very engaging and definitely highlights the importance of people signing up to the organ donor register.

sweir1 · 12/11/2016 12:56

I loved this book. It was the best I have read this year

mumofmadboys · 12/11/2016 14:04

Thanks Mumsnet for my copy. I loved the story and wasn't expecting the twist at the end! Important to highlight the importance of organ donation. I would recommend it and will look out for other books by the same author. Thanks again.

Marg2k8 · 12/11/2016 18:42

I haven't read this book. I see that I am too late to enter the giveaway, so will have to make a point of buying it as it looks good.

jt75 · 12/11/2016 19:34

I've not read this and didn't fancy the subject but will look out for her other books.

claza93 · 12/11/2016 20:22

Touching and thought provoking

Cailin7 · 12/11/2016 20:50

This is on my book shelf to read at the moment, but I did enjoy The Missing Husband last year so have high hopes for this one.

maryandbuzz1 · 14/11/2016 10:07

A heartbreaking topic and one book that had me hooked from the start. I thought I knew the direction of the story but wasn't expecting the twist. I will certainly look out for more from this author.

zombeana · 14/11/2016 11:16

very emotional, cried!

angiehoggett · 14/11/2016 16:47

Brilliant book that is very well written

cather · 14/11/2016 17:27

This is the first book that I have read by Amanda Brooke and I will be looking for more of her books as I really enjoyed reading it. The book was well written and I couldn't put it down, I liked how all the characters were linked and I liked the twists and turns in the book. Organ donation is a tricky subject to deal with but I think Amanda deals with it well and whilst it could have been a depressing read it wasn't at all.

katieskatie82 · 14/11/2016 19:37

another excellent book by Amanda Brooke. Very sad and needed quite a few tissues when reading. A wonderful book!

xenoyia6060 · 14/11/2016 20:57

This is a book i borrowed from a friend and i wish i hadn't. It wasn't for me. The characters are unlikeable and without depth. Number one on my hit list is Helen who at the very least is a miserable demanding person. At worst she is a bully and terrible mother.

The writing itself for me lacked quality and its not a book i'll ever pick up again to reread.

princesssmitheee · 15/11/2016 01:25

not read this yet xx

grannybiker · 15/11/2016 10:19

Lots going on here and many characters, so need to concentrate!

mumpetuk1 · 15/11/2016 17:31

No not yet, I am waiting for my sister to finish it. She has rated it so must be good!

henbane · 15/11/2016 17:40

Thank you Mumsnet for my copy. I thought the plotting was very good, with enough twists to keep it interesting even though the gist of the ending was somewhat predictable. However, I didn't find any of the main characters really believable; they all seemed a bit wooden and the central relationship between Julia, Helen, Phoebe & Paul failed to convince.

rocketriffs · 15/11/2016 20:56

Not for me. It didn't grab my attention. I found it easy to put down and go and do something else. Repetitive and dare I say boring.

SoniaLeroux21 · 16/11/2016 15:27

I have recently received this book from Mumsnet.
I have read Amanda Brooke's previous books before, I really enjoyed her style and the way she is able to tell the story. The Goodbye Gift follows three best friends - Julia, Helen, and Phoebe. All live different lives, different problems, and all hiding different secrets.
I really enjoyed this book.

fazkin · 16/11/2016 19:29

I thought the story was good and something that could invoke a lot of emotions in the reader but I didn't think it was written as well as it could have been.

victria · 16/11/2016 23:03

I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters of Julia, Helen and Phoebe in particular. I was a little annoyed by the typos and the fact that at one point Helen manages to do so much laundry by 10:30 on a Sunday morning that she has nowhere to put it down - she must have a very fast washer and dryer! However it was a page turner once I had gotten into it and I will be looking out for other books by this author.

wef1984 · 17/11/2016 19:39

Didn't enjoy this book as I thought I would and was really hard to keep going.

Doodygirl2009 · 17/11/2016 19:42

I'd love to have a read of this book
